Single-issue voters for stopping the genocide in Gaza should vote for Kamala Harris.
Counter-Argument #1: “Harris and Trump are the same on this issue”
Answer:
Harris called for a ceasefire before any other Democratic leader. She talks about the need to end the war, a two-state solution, and checking Israel regularly.
Netanyahu is actively advocating for Trump.
Ask yourself:
Why would Netanyahu be so adamant that Trump should win if there’s no difference between these two potential Presidents? It seems like Netanyahu himself, the architect of the genocide, thinks that Harris would work to deter or impede the genocide’s progress.
Counter-Argument #2: “Harris and Biden are the same on this issue”
Answer:
Positionality matters. Biden is an old white man who advocated segregation and came to power in the 1970s. Harris is a woman of color from two traditionally colonized ethnicities elected Senator in 2016.
Ask yourself:
Do you really think that a woman with Kamala Harris’s upbringing and background is indifferent to Palestinian suffering? Do you really believe she had the power to interrupt the genocide from the Vice Presidency? Do you really think she wouldn’t pressure Israel?
Counter-Argument #3: “If Harris loses by the Palestinian protest vote, the Democrats will move left”
Answer:
This never happens. When Dems lose the left and the election, they always pillory and blame the left. Look at 2000 and 2016. They moved hard right after both races.
Ask yourself:
Can you imagine how much worse the Gazan cause in America will get after Trump takes power and the Democrats are demonizing Palestinians (and more broadly, Muslims) for putting him in power?
This is the worst-case scenario for anyone who wants the genocide to stop.
Counter-Argument #4: “Harris hasn’t said enough on the campaign trail”
Answer:
While I may agree that it would be nice to hear more, she always raises Palestinian humanitarian concerns when discussing the subject and is signaling greater support than she can say on the trail.
Ask yourself:
Do you really believe that anyone could get elected in the US if they said they were going to cut off aid to Israel or even put significant strings on future aid?
Do you recognize that Harris needs to build a wide coalition of disparate groups to beat Trump?
Counter-Argument #5: “I just can’t vote for someone who isn’t going to end the genocide.”
Answer:
This is horrible and unfortunate, but the American President doesn’t have the power to end the genocide. Even without US weapons and diplomatic cover, Netanyahu will keep killing.
Ask yourself:
Do you really think there is an available outcome in 2025 better than Kamala Harris pushing for more humanitarian safeguards? Do you really in your heart believe that she wouldn’t do more than Trump on this issue?
Isn’t denying Bibi his preferred candidate good?
