The first round of the National Park Playoff is almost over, but one thing remains constant after the American City Bracket: Tucson isn’t going anywhere. Tucson’s National Park, #7 Saguaro, notched by far the largest score so far in the NPP, drubbing #10 White Sands 159-23. Two other seven-seeds were not so fortunate, falling to slight upsets in their contests: #10 Everglades rolled #7 Indiana Dunes 22-9 and #10 Devils Tower dominated #7 Wind Cave 22-7. In the closest match of the whole Playoff so far, a much-anticipated showdown ended with #7 Hawaii Volcanoes sneaking past #10 Crater Lake 20-17. This day’s winners will be back in action this Thursday against Day Two’s winners.
Predictive brackets again faced setbacks today, notching a 71% accuracy rate with just 2 of 19 acing the day. By far the biggest surprise was the major blowout, as 9 brackets picked White Sands to score an upset. Six chose Crater Lake and three each picked the losing seven-seeds Wind Cave and Indiana Dunes.
Today’s the last of the first round, with 8/9 matchups completing the 32-park field for the second round that starts Wednesday. Please follow and vote on Twitter!
