The National Park Playoff has notched its first upset on the second day of action, as Virgin Islands knocked off Lincoln Memorial by a 19-12 score. The win may portend trouble for other monuments in the East bracket and across the Playoff. Other two-seeds faced tough challenges but survived their matchups. In the Pacific, #2 Olympic outpaced cross-state rival #15 North Cascades 17-10. And in the North, #2 Grand Teton comfortably handled #15 Isle Royale 18-6. The only true blowout of the day came in the Southwest’s battle of mountain parks, where Rocky Mountain dominated Guadalupe Mountains 24-1. These four winners will be back in action May 14th against the 7/10 victors in their respective regions.
Predictive brackets had real trouble today, scoring just a 78% success rate and just five perfect brackets (all of which were perfect yesterday as well). Obviously, faith in the fallen #2 seed was the biggest hurdle, with 10 of the 19 brackets advancing Lincoln Memorial. But the fallen fifteens also had fans, with 4 picking North Cascades, 2 Isle Royale, and 1 Guadalupe Mountains.
Action continues today in the Playoff with 3/14 matchups in each region. Follow and vote!
