The Final Two: Saguaro and Acadia

Final Four: Saguaro, Acadia Score Upsets to Reach Final

A park near the border will win the National Park Playoff. The only question left is which border and with which country. #7 Saguaro, less than a hundred miles north of Mexico, upended the last remaining #1 seed in the tournament, Yosemite, by a 139-54 count. Across the country and the bracket, #4 Acadia, just over a hundred miles south of Canada, knocked off #3 Glacier (which actually borders Canada), by a much narrower score of 24-19. That match, unlike the first, was tied most of the day before Acadia went on a late flurry to take the match and qualify for the Championship Final.

Predictive brackets went 0-for-the-world, with none of the 19 placing either Saguaro or Acadia into the top two. One had Glacier and four had Yosemite, but those parks are now gone, along with the chance that anyone additional will score more points. Henry Phipps, brother of guest-blogger Colin Phipps, won the prediction pool by a single point with a final total of 91.

Tomorrow, on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), Saguaro and Acadia will battle for the National Park Playoff title in the Championship Final. Voting starts at 9 AM Acadia time, 6 AM Saguaro time, only on Twitter.
