Fourth Tuesday Topic

Find and post a photo of the Iraq War.

What does this photo say to you about the war?

Do you think this photo could change others' minds about the war?

Topic suggested in part by Ian at doodlingintodespair.

I have a picture saved to desktop & downloaded (...uploaded? :) on my blog for Tuesday Topic.
What of copyright laws? NYT says I can use/print one picture for personal use. Is it a stretch? This is for MY personal (blog) use! I added the link to their slide show photo came from.

I'm going to hit publish in a minute with my first Tuesday Topic. We'll see what happens!

To me it sounds like personal use for your personal blog, especially if you aren't making any money off of your blog.

When in doubt though, I think it's usually fine to reprint photos with credit. As long as you cite who took the photo or where you got it from, it's hard to go wrong... that way you're crediting the owner and it's clear you're not trying to pull a fast one.

Certainly a link meets this crediting standard, I think.

Of course, one can always try to get permission, but I don't think behemoths like the New York Times are going to bother responding to individual permission requests from bloggers.

I just want to let everyone know how moved I've been by your posts on this week's topic.

Thanks to Ian for a great idea and to everyone else for approaching it with such resounding heart and sincerity!

I posted a photo from the Iraq War several months ago.
