Day Five: Mt. Rainier Dominates, All Five-Seeds Advance

The second half of the first round opened quietly in the National Park Playoff, with some of the lowest scoring matches so far and no upsets. The most impressive win was notched in the Pacific by #5 Mount Rainier, who conquered #12 Lassen Volcanic 23-2. In the East, another coastal monument fell: Cuyahoga Valley 16, Fort McHenry 6. Meanwhile, Arches topped Carlsbad Caverns and Badlands beat Craters of the Moon by identical scores of 17-8. These four parks will be back in action May 16th, facing yesterday’s winners.

Predictive brackets scored a solid 83%, in line with the no-upset day. Of the thirteen missed picks, more than half (7) were for Carlsbad Caverns. Fort McHenry got 3 picks, Lassen Volcanic 2, and Craters of the Moon 1.
