{"id":602,"date":"2009-08-31T18:06:27","date_gmt":"2009-08-31T22:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bluepyramid.org\/storey\/archives\/602"},"modified":"2009-08-31T18:06:27","modified_gmt":"2009-08-31T22:06:27","slug":"the-sojourn-in-pictures-wisconsin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bluepyramid.org\/storey\/archives\/602","title":{"rendered":"The Sojourn in Pictures: Wisconsin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part 9 in a 16-part stately series pictorially documenting the <a href=\"\/storey\/archives\/category\/summer-sojourn-2009\">Sojourn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday: <a href=\"\/storey\/archives\/599\">Minnesota<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the most elaborate state signs, replete with governor&#8230; I guess when you have governors for 4 consecutive terms (see Tommy Thompson), it feels like something to etch on a sign:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The capitol, which we sadly forgot to take the camera into &#8211; overall, perhaps the nicest of the many state capitols I&#8217;ve seen:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>On the way to the Dells, we saw this sign.  Em was captivated, but we didn&#8217;t stop to sample the cuisine and compare it to Em&#8217;s beloved in Oakland:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI3.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>This is more or less what most of the Dells look like.  For some reason, it was not what I was expecting:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI4.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>One of the cooler formations:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI5.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;stack of pancakes&#8221;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI6.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>It occurs to me that while the subtitle for the Sunset to Sunrise Summer Sojourn 2009 was &#8220;National Parks and Baseball Parks&#8221;, it could have just been &#8220;Rock Formations&#8221;.  I mean, really.  We saw a few:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI7.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Green&#8230; in the wa-ter&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI8.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>This picture&#8230; rocks.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI9.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Toadstool formation:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI10.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Those aren&#8217;t rocks &#8211; those are <i>bricks<\/i>!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI11.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>There wasn&#8217;t a game within a number of days of our visit to Milwaukee, but they still let us in to a part of Miller Park, from where we could see the field:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI12.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Emily was enthralled by the AAGPBL exhibit, honoring the Wisconsin-based basis for perhaps her favorite movie, &#8220;A League of Their Own&#8221;:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI13.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>One of the niftier takes on retractable roofs I&#8217;ve seen:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/SojournWI14.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow:  Illinois<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Part 9 in a 16-part stately series pictorially documenting the Sojourn.
