Homecoming
(13-22 December 2001)

22 December 2001
[from Albuquerque]

-Well there's some remarkable new light shed on many a matter.  So much to toast, so much to wonder about.  But I feel like I have renewed perspective on things, most especially some of the people who've always been closest to me & who always will be.  That's comforting, despite any possible surprises, either present or future.
-So I'm finally back, as far as the page is concerned.  I keep writing on paper, but not converting.  I blame the latest round on my deeply unhospitable basement.  It got me sick about a week ago & I'm still wearing a painter's mask down here as I do computer stuff.  The computer's gotta come back upstairs, but that requires internal stability with the designing of the new interior of the house.  So for now it's a bit of sporadic spurts.  But look, here's what I've been thinking since getting back!
-I admit, though, that I don't feel that bad about timing given that Kate & Mesco have been failing to update in quite a while.  Also, I should note that Kevin Grinberg is on the bandwagon.  Does anyone have the link to Beth Mandel's webloggy thing?  Methinks that'd be interesting, & perhaps somewhere more grounded than Crack's, but less grounded than Kevin's.  Now I'm just rambling.
-But as I was rambling to things, I wanted to take a brief second to debunk Lisha's latest personality test.  Here's a quote from its "dreamer/minstrel" assignment of my personality:  "You can always see the 'Silver Lining' to every dark and dreary cloud.  Look at the bright side is your motto and understanding why everything happens for the best is your goal.  You are the positive optimist of the world who provides the hope for all humankind.  There is nothing so terrible that you can not find some good within it."  Now I'm all for being happier than I've ever been before, but let's be reasonable!  This is nothing like me.

-Am I the blue pyramid?  More on this later, though perhaps not as much as earlier.
-The financial situation of the debate team is perpetually less friendly than the moment before.  I don't like where this is headed.
-So far so good.

-It seems Em now loves the Frontier almost as much as I do.  She'll be back in a week...
-Finally got that monkey off my back.
-"Lord of the Rings" would've been a lousy movie 10 years ago, but was well done in modern technology.

[from Albuquerque]

-My Dad's stopped wearing contacts.  Ay, the insanity!  I've never known him without contacts!
-Em, unlike Lauren (apparently) was duly impressed by old AA.  That website is apparently revamped as well, under new non-Mac leadership.
-Freezbop's back & it looks like we've got a crew again.

18 December 2001
[from Albuquerque]

-Jake wants me to link our project on this page.  Even though he's stopped reading the page because of infinitely-squared.  A long story, that I may tell later.  But he'll be back.  Also, the link's not working yet, but soon, soon...
-Sweet sweet sickness.  It's another system-clearing 24 hours, mefears.
-Despite aforementioned illness, Indian food was pretty good.  At least the experience, if not my attempts to eat.  Looks like Em & my family get along quite well.

[from Albuquerque]

-Jaaaake!  & Mesco & Lisha & Fish all playing Trivial Pursuit with Em & I.  Crazy.  Once again, Em & I staged a fantastic comeback to win, though humor is what really carried the day.  & you knew Lisha wasn't going to get any work done anyway.

-When in doubt, just figure it out at the last minute.  Sometimes that works.
-We're no more decisive at home than at school.
-Fish & Em cooking at my house is a tiny bit surreal.
-Videotapes of the Dickens Play '88 & Magic Theater '91 are VERY surreal.  & could lead to much blackmail.

-Home.  In so many ways.
-"The Majestic" is definitely worth seeing, even if all of us have gotten a wee bit cynical when watching films.  An empty sneak preview bodes poorly for the beautiful new downtown theater, though.

14 December 2001
-So I'm done.  Woo hoo.
-No iceskating for us, but yet more bowling!  There's definitely folks I'll miss back here, but boy am I looking forward to some quality 'Querque time.  & to showing Em the city of my last 8+ years.

13 December 2001
-Just printed up 20 pages that will account for over 50% of my semester GPA.  Kinda cuts it to the quick, doesn't it?
-I'm not sure if I'm happier that in 6.5 hours, it'll all be over for the term, or in 2 solid days, it'll all be over for being on this coast this calendar year.  Both are really really cool.  & I know I'm going to be sailing when I get outta this final tonight.  Which is my first actual final exam in the 3-hour block in over 2 years, to the best of my recollection.  School is so close to being behind me, & I really can't wait.  But the idea of facing a Frontier breakfast burrito in 48 hours?  Wow.
